CROCHETED CONTAINER WITH LID

Materials:

Bernat white cotton yarn-I am not 100% sure how much I used, but it is less than 6oz.

Lion Yarn black cotton yarn-3oz, or less

H, 8, 5.0 crochet hook

I, 9, 5.5 crochet hook

darning needle

2 buttons, if desired

Gauge is not important for this basket. If you change the materials used or hook, it will just alter the size of the basket. You can easily adjust it to fit your wishes. This is crocheted in the round, so you must use a row marker (RM), moving it up after each round.

Constructing the Basket: Start with the I hook. The entire basket is worked with two strands to give the basket a little strength (hold). I started with one strand of black yarn and one strand of white yarn.

round 1: 7sc in the magic circle, place row marker (RM). (7 stitches)

round 2: 2sc in each sc. (14 stitches)

round 3: 2sc in first stitch, then 1 sc in next stitch. Repeat 7 times. (21 stitches)

round 4: 2sc in first stitch, then 1sc in the next two stitches. Repeat 7 times. (28 stitches)

round 5:  2sc in the first stitch, then 1 sc in the next three stitches. Repeat 7 times. (35 stitches)

round 6: 2sc in the first stitch, then 1 sc in the next four stitches. Repeat 7 times. (42 stitches)

round 7: 2sc in the first stitch, then 1 sc in the next five stitches. Repeat 7 times. (49 stitches)

round 8: sc in back loops only (49 stitches)

round 9: sc in both loops (49 stitches)

round 10: cut black thread and work end into the basket. Add another strand of white yarn (to keep the project with 2 strands working at all times). Change hook size to H (this brings in the sides of the basket a bit).  SC around. (49 stitches).

rounds 11-14: sc around (49 stitches)

round 15: (2sc, then 1sc in the next two stitches) 11 times. Then 2sc in the next stitch and 1sc in the last three stitches of the round. (66 stitches). Slip stitch in the next stitch. Bind off, and work in the end.
